the word for Wednesday 11.03.2010 is CONSTRUCTION

Today's word is Construction. If you look at the dictionary definition below, you will see there are many ways l could illustrate this word...BUT...to me, there is only one way l feel l should illustrate this word...building work. The reason l feel so strongly is because where l live, in Putney,it  is changing rapidly, there are buildings going up every where! One of the buidings l was surprised about, was on Putney Hill. This used to be an Adult Education College and was heavily used by students of all nationalities, including my own son. But now it is no more! It has been knocked down and is now going to be flats and a few penthouses ! I know we need more housing but they will be very expensive and it would have been better l feel, if there were flats, first time buyers could have bought!

The word for Monday 08.03.2010 is PATTERN

Today's word is Pattern. The world is full of patterns, man-made and naturally in nature. We have patterns on our clothes, bed covers, carpets and we see patterns in books and magazines.  I was thinking about this word, when l saw these woman walking across the road. There is a trend in the fashion world at the moment, for patterned tights......so look at the image and you will see my word! Patterned heart tights.

Pattern

A pattern, from the French patron, is a type of theme of recurring eventsor objects, sometimes referred to as elements of a set. These elements repeat in a predictable manner. It can be a template or model which can be used to generate things or parts of a thing, especially if the things that are created have enough in common for the underlying pattern to be inferred, in which case the things are said to exhibit the unique pattern.Pattern matching is the act of checking for the presence of the constituentsof a pattern, where as the detecting for underlying patterns is referred to aspattern recognition. The question of how a pattern emerges is accomplished through the work of the scientific field of pattern formation.
The most basic patterns are based on repetition and periodicity. A single template, or cell, is combined with duplicates without change or modification. For example, simple harmonic oscillators produce repeated patterns of movement.
Pattern recognition is more complex when templates are used to generate variants. For example, in English, sentences often follow the "N-VP" (noun - verb phrase) pattern, but some knowledge of the English languageis required to detect the pattern. Computer science, ethology, and psychology are fields which study patterns.
"A pattern has an integrity independent of the medium by virtue of which you have received the information that it exists. Each of the chemical elements is a pattern integrity. Each individual is a pattern integrity. The pattern integrity of the human individual is evolutionary and not static."

We were so busy talking, although l took a lot of images, l was not really thinking about reflections! So l had to put this straight on the way home. The word for Friday 05.03.2010 is PYRAMID

Today's word is pyramid and when l read that, l thought, how on earth am l going to be able to achieve this challenge? I can think of one big pyramid up in a graveyard in Edinburgh...small problem, l am in London. I do or rather had, a blue, hand-blown glass shaped pyramid but smashed it the other day..bother. Ok... is there any way to represent this word with-out it actually be a pyramid shape? Think..what does the word actually mean..go and read dictionary definition. PAUSE!..............................
O.K can be apyramid organisation but not much help there. So off to see what l can find but not holding out much luck.
Sorry have not blogged for last few days but up in Rutland. Full story on my other photography blog......

We stopped to have lunch in Melton Mowbray, the home of the pork pie and very dissapointed we were too. It is meant to be Foody Heaven but we found it to be a very down at heel looking place, maybe on Market Days it is different but today..boring! We walked around and l was surprised to see so many people smoking, as in Putney l hardly ever see more than one or two people walking around smoking and sometimes at the bus stops. Here in this town, l saw many people smoking while walking and also in groups  but because of their habit, l had my image for the day!

I took another image, which showed the whole of the pyramid but l think this is a better image, even though it shows less. As you can see from the amount of butts stuffed into the holes, a lot of smokers in this town and also, I had never seen this shape before. There were many of these bins placed around the town, which is good, otherwise they would be littering the place and making it even more of an unsightly looking place than l feel it is already.  Sorry Melton Mowbray!

the word for 02.3.201009 is TRIPLE

The word for today is Triple. Triple means three and so it could be so easy to show this word as a image! Three teddy bears, three trees, a physical number 3 or a street scene which has three people or cars in it.
I took Tony to hospital, for his weekly blood test and l went from there into Purtney, to pay some money into the Bank and go and pick a prescription from the Chemist and then back to Hospital. While l was in the Putney's shopping, l was able to think about this word but everything seemed so boring. As l was going out of the centre, l moved to one side, to let a lady in through the door with her toddler and her double buggy. It was tight fit but it worked and then, as l was moving back through the door, l saw my image just outside the automatic doors!

Love the way the cup is being reflection in other two different polished surfaces. The door surround is made of polished matal and the wall is polished granite. But once again l have to go on about take-way cups..why isn't in a bin? There is on just four or five steps away on the pavement , next to this shopping centre...............ugh!
